Development Associates for Young Africans

Development Associates is a youth led Non Governmental organization working in Kenyan informal settlement and rural areas. We focus on economic empowerment, sustainable livelihoods promotion, HIV prevention, gender and development. We believe that if young people are empowered economically, they are able to prevent HIV, get employment, stop/end GBV and build a formidable future. Through our economic empowerment program, Development Associates train young people 16-35 living in urban slums on business ideas, self employment, and linkages to employment through a course known as Leadership, entrepreneurship and employ-ability skills/Ready to work (RTW).

Personal brand
building

We train young people on how to stand out, brand themselves, create a niche of whom they are, what they are and how to communicate whom they are. We make sure that they build their confidence, something that put them at a better place to compete with others on the areas of employment or business management.

Communication skills and Self expression

Most young people fail to get jobs due to lack of people’s skills. To enable them communicate well: Development Associates for Young Africans ensures that youth go through a curriculum that teaches them to communicate well with people of different cadre with an aim of achieving organizational objectives and goals.

Poorly done Curriculum vitae/Resume denies majority of young people employment opportunities in Kenya and Africa. Our well trained facilitators ensures that youth who pass through our class acquire necessary skills to develop attractive CV. This enable our graduates to compete in the job market.

Linkages to
employment

Upon completion and graduation, we link our beneficiaries to local companies and organizations as employees.

Over the past years our alumni have proved to be top performers in areas like dress making, data entries, front office administrators, cleaners etc.

Our Centre of Excellence

Our center of excellent is situated at Soweto East Resource Center, Kibera informal settlement. The center hosts and offers competitive training in fashion design, digital and basic computer skills, online job opportunity center and daycare center for mothers with young children who cannot afford daily day care rates.

Digital skills
We partner with Africa 118 to offer quality digital skills training that empower young people to work in the digital world. Our state of the art digital center offers online job opportunities to youth and women in Kenya’s informal settlement. We also ensure that youth are able to list businesses on google maps for increased earning. We link young people with other local and international digital opportunities such as schools and financial institutions.

Micro farming

Development Associates for Young Africans is involved in community development through economic empowerment, health education, employment creation and digital skills and Micro farming training. Because HIV/AIDS awareness creation is paramount to youth development, Development Associates use employability and Micro farming model as a way to grow young people out of poverty caused HIV in urban and rural areas.

Development Associates for Young Africans partner with local and international companies to buy local products. We train young people in rural areas in micro farming where to ensure sustainable livelihoods.

Our Programs

Development Associates for Young Africans is involved in community empowerment through health education and promotion. We ensure that we provide Adolescent sexual reproductive health information to the youths, HIV/AIDS awareness creation, community health talks and referrals. We link the most vulnerable youths in and out of school to opportunities such as employment, job trainings, and entrepreneurship trainings to ensure that youths are able to break poverty cycle. We use social enterprise model to leverage on the needs of the youths with urban and rural areas in Kenya.

Testimonials

DAY Africa has trained and coached thousands of youths in Kibera, Mathare, Korogocho, Juja, Kiambu and Thika. The training is tailor made using ready to work employ ability curriculum for youth development. In partnership with LVCT health through dreams project, DAY-AFRICA has successfully linked more than 2000 young women and girls to formal employment opportunities locally. We support more than 300 women and youth get employment opportunities in different sectors such as digital skills, micro farming, fashion design etc.
